At the end of June, an article presenting our research project was published on “The Science in Poland” website run by the Polish Press Agency.
In the article we can read that “(…) this project is related to research on stratification, or the functioning of the social hierarchy. Musical taste is one of the elements shaping the lifestyle. And lifestyle is our own choice. And this choice is usually treated by other people as a determinant of our prestige, a place in the social hierarchy – explains Domański. It results from the fact that – as he argues – the social position is shaped by various factors related to, e.g. the level of wealth, signs of prestige, and the level of education. Moreover, all these elements are to some extent related to the social origin of individuals, or the social position of their parents. Therefore, one of the aims of the study is to determine to what extent musical tastes are shaped by parents. Certainly such a relationship exists, for instance if mother or father played musical instruments, often went to concerts and listened to music – it all will affect the musical taste of the their child. ” The whole article is available HERE (in Polish).
Moreover, on 7 July, professor Henryk Domański was a guest of the “New Day” program at Polsat News, where he talked about musical tastes and social stratification, and in August Katarzyna M. Wyrzykowska talked about our research project in Radio TOK FM (podcast in Polish is available HERE).
